Increased performance
The search index now compacts itself automatically for much improved performance, especially on large indices.
Focused enhancements to ensure compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
Removed hard wrapping
Implemented a long-standing request from several users to no longer wrap outgoing plain-text messages at 78 characters. This will help recipients of PowerMail messages whose mail clients did not honor RFC 1738 for the formatting of URL's in between "<" and ">" marks.
Improved export
Messages are now systematically re-encoded, to make sure that body lines starting with "From " will be encoded as quote-printable, hence they will not be treated as a message separator.
Bug fixes
  • Copying an email address from the simple header's contextual menu did not work
  • Some received messages could be empty, when they contain multiple parts, and use a multi-line boundary header field (RFC 2231)

Non-administrator account

German localization
Fixed a bug in the German localization.
Disk image now includes version 2.8.2 of SpamSieve

6.0.4 - view release notes online - download

Includes update to the core FoxTrot search engine, which includes further performance optimizations
Updated the build system to Apple's latest XCode
Performance gains observed as a result of the new compilers
64-bit Spotlight plugin
On Mac OS X 10.6, this enables faster indexing of PowerMail messages from within Spotlight, FoxTrot Professional Search and FoxTrot Personal Search which are now also 64-bit enabled.
64-bit QuickLook plugin
On Mac OS X 10.6, this enables optimized viewing using the Quick Look function.
Fixed a possible corruption of the SpamSieve scripts
Disk image updated to include SpamSieve 2.8.1
Fixed a bug in the German localization
System requirements
Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6; PowerPC (G3, G4 or G5) or Intel processor.
Known issues
  • Some rendering issues may remain in rich text or HTML messages due to limitations in Apple's Webkit support for Carbon apps, notably when clicking/double-clicking URL's and printing
  • Certain ISPs now add so many headers to a message (such as anti-spam headers) that the sender name is sometimes not displayed in the summary IMAP fetch. Please remember that PowerMail has a lightweight IMAP implementation and that it was designed around the premise of having messages stored locally (i.e. POP3-fetched) and indexable.
Hint if this condition occurs: copy the IMAP messages into a local folder (i.e. the local In Tray), as this will fetch them completely.

New horizontal browser layout
By popular demand, created a new 3-pane horizontal browser layout designed for wide screens, accessible from "View: Browser Layout".
Forwarding an HTML message
Upon forwarding an HTML message, it is now converted to plain text but the original HTML data is now also included as an attached file.
Replying to an HTML message
Replying to an HTML message no longer truncates the quoted text, when replied from a separate message window, or when the short header is not displayed.
HTML to plain text conversion
Added HTML to plain text conversion upon replying or forwarding from the 2 panes browser, from a mail filter or when using "reply single message".
Added HTML to plain text conversion upon getting the "content" of a message from AppleScript and upon using the "body" mail filter criterion as well as for indexing with Spotlight.
System requirements
Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5; PowerPC or Intel processor.

Stability improvements:
PowerMail should be more stable than previous releases, especially when displaying or indexing HTML messages, during drag and drop operations, or when displaying an alert message.
View Threads improvement:
The "view thread" command, when the shift key is pressed, searches the messages belonging to the thread by examining the "in-reply-to" and "references" header fields, instead of the subject. Note that you must manually rebuild the search index for this to find messages received before PowerMail 6.0.1.
HTML printing:
HTML messages are now printed as rich text, as printing HTML could skip the print dialog, or print an empty page.
Fixed a few bugs introduced in version 6.0:
- Autoreply and autoforward filters were adding the quotation string to the received message, instead of the reply message.
- A warning has been added in the export assistant to avoid confusion between "preserve folder hierarchy" and "include subfolders".
- A warning about the index could be displayed when launching PowerMail if background indexing is disabled in the preferences.
- Text clippings and web internet locations files dropped from the Finder could be sent as attachments, instead of being inserted in the body of the message.
- Replying to an HTML message was inserting the short header in the quotation string (when the short header is displayed).
Dutch localization is back, thanks to Jan M.J. Storms.
System requirements
Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5; PowerPC or Intel processor.
